The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 6 Division, Port-Harcourt, Major-General Olubunmi Irefin, is dead.
He passed away after contracting the COVID-19 while attending the annual Chief of Army Staff Annual Conference in Abuja.
The conference has been cancelled.
Participants, including Principal Staff Officers, GOCs, Commandants of Army schools, Commanders of Army Operations, and others, have been asked to embark on 14 days isolation.
He hailed the Nigerian Army for its efforts in securing the nation.
The President said the military arm has remained resolute in the discharge of its constitutional roles and in keeping the welfare of soldiers a priority.

The Nigerian Army has cancelled the remaining activities in the ongoing Chief of Army Staff’s Annual Conference in Abuja following the testing positive for COVID-19 by a senior officer attending the conference.

According to the statement, “due to resurgence of COVID-19 pandemic in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, in what appears to be a second wave of infection cycle and the unfortunate incident on Tuesday, 8 December 2020, where an officer participating in the ongoing Chief of Army Staff’s Annual Conference 2020 in Abuja tested positive to COVID-19, the remaining activities of the conference have therefore been immediately cancelled

The General Officer Commanding of the 6 Division of the Nigerian Army in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Major General Olubunmi Irefin, is dead.
According to available information, the amiable General died at the ongoing Chief of Army Staff Annual Conference, which was hurriedly discontinued over the development.
Information had filtered in earlier in the day that the COAS Annual Conference was discontinued because a participant tested positive for COVID-19.
The spokesman of the Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Musa Sagir, who confirmed the development in a statement, said all participants had been ordered by the COAS, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai, to proceed on a two weeks self-isolation in order to avoid infecting other people.
