Sreeshankar confident that he can nail 8.35m leap in Tokyo

New Delhi [India], May 22 (ANI): Long jumper M Sreeshankar is confident about his chances at the Tokyo Olympic Games, believing that an 8.35m jump will earn him a medal in the showpiece event scheduled to be held from July 23.
The 22-year-old, now training in the Government Medical College in Palakkad, Kerala, said his realistic aim would be to jump between 8.35m and 8.40m as his father and coach Muralidaran has envisaged. I am figuring out my performance parameters every day. I am getting closer to that big target. There is good enough time left to sharpen the skills, said Sreeshankar in a media interaction facilitated by the Sports Authority of India (SAI) on Saturday.

On Thursday, the Mission Olympic Cell has approved her proposal to the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) to train in Hungary and Poland after she finishes her high-altitude stint in Bulgaria.
The cost of her proposal for training and competition is Rs 20.21 lakhs.
Vinesh Phogat, who secured India the 53kg category Olympic quota in September 2019 at the World Championships, will train in Budapest until June 9, traveling for the Poland Open (June 9 to 13) return to Budapest to be based there till July 2. She will be accompanied by her coach Woller Akos, sparring partner Priyanka, and physiotherapist Poornima Raman Ngomdir will be with her throughout.

Indian tennis star Sania Mirza has approached the Indian Sports Ministry after her son and his guardian were denied visa by the UK authorities.
The UK has imposed travel restrictions on India and a few other countries around the globe, owing to surging coronavirus cases around the world.
Mirza is scheduled to compete in the Nottingham Open (from June 6), Birmingham Open (from June 14), the Eastbourne Open (from June 20) and the Wimbledon (from June 28).
The sports ministry said it was approached by Mirza, who said she could not leave a two-year-old child behind to take part in a month-long tournament.
