Woman says punitive damages are appropriate in suit alleging Wood River car dealership concealed defects

Duree A woman who claims a Wood River dealership concealed vehicle defects argues that punitive damages are appropriate and for a jury to decide.  On Feb. 18, Madison County Circuit Judge Sarah Smith granted plaintiff Brittany Nicole Hewitt’s request to file a sur-reply to the motion for summary judgment filed by defendants DBJ Automotive II, doing business as J.D. Byrider of Wood River, and DBJ Investments Inc., also known as CNAC of Wood River.  The 159-page document, filed through attorney David Duree of O’Fallon, included the discovery depositions of Joseph Dugan and Thomas Thomas III. Dugan, who said he attempted to buy a house in Granite City with the plaintiff, testified about the circumstances surrounding the purchase of the vehicle at issue, the engine issues the vehicle had, and the consequences of Hewitt’s damaged credit score. 

Complaint Claims Syngenta Herbicide Caused Plaintiffs Parkinson s Disease

Agriculture your username February 25, 2021 Syngenta Crop Protection and Chevron U.S.A. received a complaint on Tuesday in the Southern District of Illinois purporting that its products containing paraquat, a synthetic chemical compound used as the active ingredient in some of its herbicides, caused the plaintiffs to develop Parkinson’s disease.  The complaint explained that Imperial Chemical Industries Limited and Chemical Industries PLC, predecessors of Syngenta, and Chevron Chemical Company, a predecessor of Chevron, manufactured products with paraquat between 1964 and 1986. Chevron reportedly used the paraquat products and distributed them for sale throughout the United States. After 1986, Syngenta continued to manufacture paraquat and use it in various products.

Volkswagen dealership accused of concealing manufacturer s defect

Cronin BELLEVILLE A woman claims a St. Clair Volkswagen dealership concealed a known manufacturer s defect that allegedly caused her vehicle s engine failure.  Katherine Dintelman filed a complaint Jan. 25 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against St. Clair Volkswagen Inc., doing business as Auffenberg Volkswagen, alleging violation of the Illinois Automotive Repair Act and Illinois Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business Practices Act, fraud, breach of contract and negligence.  Dintelman alleges in her complaint that on May 18, 2018, she paid Auffenberg Volkswagen for minor maintenance and repairs on her 2012 Volkswagen Eos.  She claims the dealership actively and fraudulently concealed the fact that her vehicle s engine had a known defect in the timing chain tensioner, which can cause engine failure.
