(CNS News) Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s proposal to stop flights in and out of Israel, was approved by the Cabinet to take effect on Jan. 26, 2021.
According to the press release from the prime minister’s office, the new regulations include,
1. A ban on incoming planes to Israel except for cargo flights, firefighting flights and flights for emergency medical evacuation.
2. A temporary restriction on permits for operating Israeli airlines.
3. A reduction in exceptions for departure by air to outside Israel so as to include the following cases only: Medical treatment, judicial proceedings to which the person is a party or must participate in, or the funeral of a close relative.

(January 25, 2021 / JNS) Israel’s Labor Party on Sunday elected as its new leader Knesset member Merav Michaeli. Michaeli won 77 percent of the approximately 10,000 votes in the party’s primary, held ahead of the country’s March 23 Knesset elections, the fourth round in two years.

The move allows for “maximum and rapid realization of the potential inherent” in relations between the two countries, says Israeli Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi.

Israel’s diplomatic mission to Abu Dhabi officially opened on Sunday with the arrival in the United Arab Emirates of head of mission Eitan Na’eh, the Israeli Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Na’eh, formerly Israel’s ambassador to Turkey, will head the temporary mission until an ambassador is appointed and a permanent site for an embassy can be found. In the meantime, the mission will operate out of temporary offices, to be inaugurated in the coming days, according to the Foreign Ministry.

(January 25, 2021 / JNS) Several Democratic lawmakers have called on Israel to vaccinate Palestinians even though under the Oslo Accords, the Palestinian Authority is responsible for the health care of its residents.
Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-N.Y.) joined several other Democrats, including Reps. Joaquin Castro (D-Texas), Marie Newman (D-Ill.) and Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.), as well as Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.), in expressing concern over Israel’s vaccination policy.
