MWL Chief: Saudi Arabia Consolidates Moderation, the Muslim Brotherhood Practices Deception

UAE s counter-terrorism, extremism initiatives highlighted at International Parliamentary Conference ABU DHABI, 18th April, 2021 (WAM) The Federal National Council (FNC) Parliamentary Division presented the country’s counter-terrorism and extremism initiatives and efforts at the virtual International Parliamentary Conference on the Global Challenges and Threats in the Context of the COVID-19 Pandemic: Terrorism and Violent Extremism, organised by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM). During the event, Dherar Humaid Al Falasi, Vice Chairman of the Division, said that the UAE has issued several counter-terrorism and extremism policies, including a federal law on combatting terrorist-related crimes issued in 2014, and a decree federal law criminalising contempt of religions to combat all forms of discrimination and hatred.

Islamic coalition holds forum on guerrilla warfare

RIYADH: The Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC) on Thursday held a symposium to discuss guerrilla warfare and its relation to terrorism. Among those speaking at the event was Brig. Gen. Yahya Assiri from the Saudi delegation to the coalition, and Zaki Al-Ruwahi, Oman’s representative, in the presence of IMCTC secretary-general, Mohammed Al-Moghedi, representatives of members states, and other coalition officials. Assiri said guerrilla warfare was an irregular form of conflict that had become an international phenomenon with its dimensions and manifestations, and he highlighted its links to terrorist funding, intelligence, and information. Al-Ruwahi pointed out that guerrilla groups were a threat to local, regional, and international security, peace, and stability.

India-Saudi defense ties on the upswing

RIYADH: The signing of the landmark Riyadh Declaration during the visit of Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh to Riyadh in 2010 raised the bilateral relationship between India and the Kingdom to a strategic partnership. The partnership covers security, economic, defense, and political areas and was perhaps the starting point in structured bilateral defense cooperation between India and Saudi Arabia. Bilateral defense ties gained further momentum following the visit of then-Defense Minister A.K. Antony to Riyadh in February 2012, the first visit by an Indian defense minister to Saudi Arabia. During the visit, the two sides decided to establish a Joint Committee on Defense Cooperation (JCDC), which would identify areas for cooperation in the field of defense. The JCDC held four meetings in 2012, 2016, 2017 and 2019 during which fruitful discussions were held on training and capacity building, intelligence exchange, maritime security, and the promotion of defense industries.

Updated 26 March 2021 March 26, 2021 02:34 JEDDAH: Twelve Arab projects have been selected for development at the Red Sea Lodge 2021, the Red Sea Film Festival announced on Thursday. Six of the projects are from Saudi Arabia while the rest come from Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, and Lebanon. The 12 filmmaking teams will gather virtually four times, then come together in person in Jeddah for the inaugural Red Sea International Film Festival. Half of the projects feature women in the roles of directors and producers. The teams will pitch their vision to international production companies, with two lucky teams being granted $100,000 by an independent jury of experts. The winning movies will premiere at the festival, which is scheduled to take place in 2022.
