Artist and Queens professor, Mike Wirth, drew inspiration for his menorah design from the late Supreme Court justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
Drivers passing by the campus of Queens University might be doing double takes on their commute home in the days to come. Every night of Hanukkah, which runs through Dec. 18, a large-scale menorah will be lit not by flame but by spray paint.
The design for Mike Wirth’s menorah mural, which stands 8 feet tall and 8 feet wide, came from none other than the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. She really stands for so many things, Wirth said. And, you know, as a Jewish boy from Long Island, she is a matriarch. She is a strong, Jewish lady, and I’ve known a lot of strong, Jewish ladies.

Time magazine names President-elect Joe Biden, Vice President-elect Kamala Harris as Person of the Year Jordan Culver, USA TODAY UP NEXT
President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris were collectively chosen as Time s 2020 Person of the Year on Thursday night.
The honor was announced by Bruce Springsteen during an hourlong TV special on NBC.
Biden was elected the 46th president of the United States in November, defeating incumbent Donald Trump after an especially contentious election season. He served as vice president under Barack Obama, Trump s predecessor.
A key part of Biden s platform was reuniting a divided nation. Four years from now, Biden told Time he hopes people say, That America was better off and average Americans are better off the day we left than the day we arrived. That’s my objective.”

When Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg passed away on September 18, it sent shockwaves around the world, impacting people in many ways.
For Brooklyn College adjunct piano professor Jeffrey Biegel, it was a loss that touched him on many levels. Coming from a law enforcement family his father was the youngest captain in the NYPD in the 1970s, serving in three precincts, while his grandfather was a lieutenant before that he was raised with a healthy respect for justice that Ginsburg dedicated her life to.

Ginsburg also loved music. So Biegel, a world-renowned concert pianist and composer who teaches in the School of Visual, Media and Performing Arts, found the most fitting way to honor the woman whom he deeply admired. Reflection of Justice: An Ode to Ruth Bader Ginsburg is a solo piano composition and homage he composed over several days in October to immortalize the legendary Supreme Court Justice who did so much for so many.
