By Jessie Pye | The Public Forum   | March 16, 2021, 12:00 p.m. There is a trend in Utah where appointed boards have taken the place of the Legislature in approving the expenditure of certain public funds. By delegating its authority to such unaccountable boards, the state is effectively relinquishing oversight of how public funds are used and severely limiting the ability of the public to have meaningful input in spending decisions. As it was introduced late in the session and only discussed briefly, in committee, we ask that you veto Senate Bill 243 to give everyone more time to understand its complex provisions.
