As rescuers continue round-the-clock operation to pull out those believed to be stuck inside a tunnel in Tapovan area after last Sunday s (February 7) flash floods, a geologist has alerted the authorities of impending danger by a lake formed by debris of the avalanche. The lake has blocked the path of Rishiganga river.Â
In a video shared by Garhwal University Geologist Dr Naresh Rana, it can be clearly seen that the river flow has been blocked by debris resulting in formation of a huge lake. The breach of the lake could trigger another devastating flash flood in the region and hamper the rescue work downstream.Â

Rescuers began drilling from above a debris-filled tunnel on Thursday in a desperate bid to reach dozens of people missing since a flash flood likely caused by a breaking glacier four days earlier.
Workers have toiled night and day clearing rocks and mud from the tunnel at a damaged hydroelectric plant at Tapovan in Uttarakhand since Sunday s disaster.
More than 170 people are missing elsewhere in the Himalayan state, slightly smaller than Switzerland, after the disaster. Because of the amount of debris, only 34 bodies have been recovered so far.

New Delhi:
A video that has emerged from the Uttarakhand avalanche tragedy has captured the moment when the Tapovan Hydro Electric Power project was completely washed off. At least 30 people have died and 170 are missing after a glacier burst on Sunday that left many workers trapped in tunnels.
Tapovan was hit by a sudden flood after the glacier broke off and slid down the valley. The video shows water crashing into the dam at a high speed. Voices can be heard exclaiming at the sight of workers carried by the deluge.
