Tapovan tunnel search operations: Search operations at Uttarakhand s Tapovan tunnel are on to rescue over 30 workers trapped at a power project site. According to the SDRF, around 35 more people are stuck in this tunnel and 5 people have come forward and reported their presence to the administration. As many as 26 bodies have been recovered while 197 people are still missing so far, according to the State Disaster Relief Fund (SDRF).
New Delhi [India], February 9 (ANI): Respective agencies of the Centre and State are monitoring the situation in Uttarakhand's Chamoli district where a glacier burst resulted in a massive avalanche and flashflood, Union Home Minister Amit Shah informed the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday.
Rescuers have not been able to make contact with the 30 workers feared trapped inside the 12-foot-high and 2.5-km-long HRT, but they are hopeful for signs of life

The rescue operations continued well into the night on Tuesday. The operation to rescue those trapped in the tunnel is being carried out by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and ITBP personnel.
The combined rescue team has reached up to 130 metres inside the tunnel but there is a lot of debris clogging it. People feared trapped inside the tunnel are said to be at around 200 metres.

Dehradun: Five more bodies of the around 170 missing in the Uttarakhand disaster were recovered from the debris in Raini village on Tuesday, while rescuers worked through tonnes of muck and slush to rescue more than 30 workers trapped in a tunnel at a power project site in Tapovan, State Emergency Control Centre said. Two policemen deployed at the plant are among the deceased.
