Bariso, the assignment judge since February 2012, is calling it career on April 1st and will be succeeded by fellow Superior Court Judge Jeffrey Jablonski.
While Bariso, first appointed by then-Acting Gov. Richard Codey in 2005, has heard hundreds, possible over a thousand cases, in his long career there are two in particular that left a lasting impact: a jury trial involving the Jews Offering New Alternatives for Healing (JONAH) and the state vs. JLG.
“The JONAH case involved a lot of research regarding the issue of same sex attractions and whether or not it was a mental disorder or not … One of the first trials I had that had interesting jury selection issues,” he told HCV.

Montclair, NJ – The Township of Montclair announced Tuesday that Superior Court Judge Jeffrey B. Beacham stated he would sign an order dismissing the lawsuit brought against the Township of Montclair by the Montclair Property Owners Association. The ruling would end the Association’s challenge to the Township’s rent control ordinance.
Judge Beacham agreed to stay the order until February 19 when the Montclair Property Owners Association will argue that the judge should reconsider his ruling.
According to the Township, Montclair Property Owners Association attorney Charles Gormally stated the Association’s members wanted to hold off the effective date of the ordinance so that landlords could raise rents by more than 10 percent on vacant apartments before the ordinance could take effect.
Protesters hold park vigil on second night of county executive’s restraining order
Updated Dec 10, 2020;
Protesters chose not to defy a restraining order banning them from protesting outside Hudson County Executive Tom DeGise’s home Wednesday night, and instead held a small vigil at a nearby park in honor of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainees.
Four protesters were arrested Tuesday night after county sheriff’s officers informed them of the restraining order and told them to disperse, according to video footage and interviews with protesters. For days they had been protesting outside DeGise’s home, calling on him to void a contract that will allow ICE to continue detaining immigrants at the county jail.
