Dilworth School: Four men to stand trial accused of historical sexual offending

Photo: RNZ / Dan Cook Ross Douglas Browne, Rex McIntosh and two other men who have name suppression appeared at the High Court at Auckland on Wednesday and pleaded not guilty to each charge they face. They will stand trial in April next year with proceedings set down for 12 weeks. The men - all now in their 60s and 70s - were remanded on continued bail. They face dozens of charges, including indecent assault against a boy under 16 and some against boys under 12. The police investigation into historical sexual offending dating back to the 1980s is continuing.

The charges relate to two complainants and the alleged offending happened in the 1990s and 2002, while Browne was a chaplain at the school. Former Dilworth teacher and housemaster Rex McIntosh initially faced three charges of indecent assault and was further charged with four counts of indecent assault in December. As well as teaching at Dilworth, McIntosh also taught at Ruawai College for 16 years and was recently a relief teacher at Pakuranga, St Kents, Ormiston Senior and Botany Downs colleges. Wellsford homicide: Duo plead not guilty over alleged murder of Zane Smith

Desmond Bourne appeared at the High Court in Auckland on Wednesday. A 45-year-old man has pleaded not guilty to murder in connection to the fatal shooting of Zane Smith in north Auckland. Smith, 37, was found dead inside a vehicle on Wayby Station Rd, Wellsford, on November 28. Desmond Bourne was found by police in December, unresponsive, at a central Auckland address following a search spanning six days. Following medical treatment, he was charged with murder.
