Azerbaijan at full force at Europeans in Lisbon

Azerbaijan presents its team for the European Championships in Lisbon with nine athletes, eight man and Iryna Kindzerska is the only woman to fight in Portugal this week at the last day on Sunday. Only Rustam Orujov can t compete due to his COVID-19 infection. Orujov ws European champion in 2016, the year in which he took silver at the Rio Olympics. Azerbaijan counts 10 European titles in history, all by the men.
The Azeri team should be able to take a few medals in the men’s category. Last year in Prague the team caught 5 medals including the European title by Orkhan Safarov U66kg. Azerbaijani judoka Davud Mammadsoy (60kg) has qualified for the final of Tel Aviv Grand Slam 2021.
Mammadsoy defeated German Moritz Plafky, Indian Vijay Kumar, Kazakh Gusman Kyrgyzbayev and Russian Ramazan Abdullayev.
Notably, Tel Aviv Grand Slam 2021 brings together more than 400 fighters from 60 countries.
The International Judo Federation (IJF) selected Tel Aviv to host one of its iconic Grand Slam tournaments in February 2021.
Israel has hosted the IJF s marquee Grand Prix tournament in Tel Aviv for the past two years. In 2018, Israel also hosted the European Judo Championships.
Founded in 1972, the Azerbaijan Judo Federation actively promotes this martial art across the country. Since 2015, the Federation has been headed by Rovnag Abdullayev.

Championships by the International Cycling Union, which has also been
awarded four new titles of "Bike City".
The UCI reinforces rider safety and its commitment to sustainable development 02/05/21
The Management Committee of the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) met on 3 and 4 February. With travel restrictions still in place worldwide because of the health crisis (coronavirus pandemic), the meeting of the Federation’s executive body again took place by videoconference, and not during the recent UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships in Ostend (Belgium) as originally planned. The UCI Management Committee approved a plan to improve rider safety, approved a new strategy for sustainable development, awarded the UCI Bike City label to new cities and regions, and attributed the organisation of several events.
