GBA suspends Harrison for five years

The Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) has suspended the licence of Richard Nii Lartey Harrison, former World Boxing Organisation (WBO) Africa Heavyweight Champion.
A letter signed by Mr Peter Zwenes, President of the GBA said the licence has been suspended for five years, hence the boxer would not be able to fight in and outside Ghana.
According to the letter, the decision of the GBA was due to forgery of release letter with the signature of the General Secretary Mr Patrick Johnson to enable him to fight Fabio Wardley in the United Kingdom (UK) last year.
Vlasov s Handlers File Protest Over Loss To Joe Smith: Complaint Over Officials, Drug Testing Wed Apr 14, 2021, 04:23 AM EDT
The handlers for Maxim Vlasov (45-4, 26 KOs) have filed a protest with the World Boxing Organization over the officiating for this past Saturday s fight in Tulsa, where the Russian boxer lost a twelve round majority decision to Joe Smith (27-3, 21 KOs).
Based on scores of 114-114, 115-113 and 115-112 - Smith walked away with the vacant WBO light heavyweight title.
The contest was very close, with Smith pulling out a win in the final two rounds.
“This was a very hard-fought, competitive fight, Vlasov said in the aftermath. I thought I was winning rounds and was well ahead. Against the aggressive style of Joe Smith, I came forward the entire fight. I felt confident I was winning and was securing rounds in the bank with the judges. I never felt that I was behind at any stage of the fight. This was my opportunity to show the world I was a world champion,

2nd Circ. Eyes Resentencing After Talk Of Boxer s Nationality
Law360, New York (April 8, 2021, 6:00 PM EDT) The Second Circuit appeared likely Thursday to order resentencing for a noted boxer convicted of scheming with a Russian crime boss, because of statements the sentencing judge made about the boxer s national origin that appear to run afoul of controlling law.
During virtual arguments, Circuit Judges Richard C. Wesley, Susan L. Carney and William J. Nardini suggested that Avtandil Khurtsidze, a onetime World Boxing Organization international middleweight champion from the former Soviet republic of Georgia, would have to be sentenced anew.
Khurtsidze was sentenced to 10 years in prison in 2018 by U.S. District Judge Katherine B. Forrest after he was.

DONNIE Nietes showed he hasn’t lost a step as he dominated Pablo Carillo of Colombia in his comeback fight on Saturday night at the Caesars Palace Bluewaters in Dubai.
The 38-year-old four-time world champion came away with a unanimous decision win against Carillo to herald his ring return after a 27-month layoff in the undercard of the Jamel Herring-Carl Frampton title fight for the World Boxing Organization (WBO) junior lightweight championship.
Nietes won by scores of 96-95, 98-92, 99-91 to improve his record at 43-1-5 (23 KOs).

The former four-division champion Nietes scored an impressive unanimous decision win against Pablo Carillo of Colombia to take the World Boxing Organization (WBO) International junior bantamweight title Sunday at the Caesars Palace Bluewaters in Dubai.
The 38-year-old Nietes, who last fought in December 2018, proved he still packs a punch as he landed counters and uppercuts while moving away from Carillo in the 12-round bout.
The three judges scored the bout 96-95, 98-92, 99-91 all in favor of Nietes, who improved his ring record to 43 wins with one defeat and five draws, while Carillo dropped to 25-8-1.
