AFTER a one-year hiatus from competitive cycling, TT cyclist Nicholas Paul sees his recent silver medal performance at the International Belgian Track Meeting as a positive indicator ahead of his debut Olympic campaign.
In the men’s sprint final, the 23-year-old was unable to get past the experienced tactics of 2012 London Olympic gold medallist Jason Kenny (Great Britain).
Athletes and IOC President mark 100-day countdown to Tokyo 2020 IOC/Greg Martin
A group of riders from the International Cycling Union (UCI)’s World Cycling Centre in Switzerland today met with International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach to kick off the final countdown to the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 this summer.
The athletes and the IOC President came together by the official Tokyo 2020 countdown clock in the Olympic Capital of Lausanne at the very moment that marked exactly 100 days to go to the Olympic Games.
“Now the real countdown has started and, comparing it to an athlete, it is the final lap. So, we need to get ready for the final sprint – with regard to the organisation, but also with regard to the athletes. Now everybody has a clear vision of these Games,” said the IOC President.
Campbell debuts for new pro club

Campbell’s team pedalled to an eighth-place finish at the one-day pro-series event. The 23-year-old road cyclist finished 91st out of a packed field of 143 other riders.
The UCI reinforces rider safety and its commitment to sustainable development 02/05/21
The Management Committee of the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) met on 3 and 4 February. With travel restrictions still in place worldwide because of the health crisis (coronavirus pandemic), the meeting of the Federation’s executive body again took place by videoconference, and not during the recent UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships in Ostend (Belgium) as originally planned. The UCI Management Committee approved a plan to improve rider safety, approved a new strategy for sustainable development, awarded the UCI Bike City label to new cities and regions, and attributed the organisation of several events.
Alexander tops TTCF elite assessment

TEAM DRIVE Phase Sport’s Quincy Alexander was the fastest elite national sprinter at the final TT Cycling Federation (TTCF) assessment meet which was contested at the National Cycling Centre in Couva on Friday.
Alexander clocked 10.406 seconds in the Flying 200 metres and surpassed the Elite Pan American Track Cycling Championships men’s sprint qualification time of 10.5. He also bettered his 10.654 time produced at the first assessment two weeks ago.
Two-time Olympian Njisane Phillip (Rigtech Sonics) had another energetic display on the track as he stopped the clock on 10.449 as compared to his 10.488 at the first leg.
