(Photo: Konradus Epa/UCA News) Indonesian journalists marked World Press Freedom Day on May 3 by calling on the government and parliament to revise a law they say has been used to gag and persecute them. According to the Alliance of Independent Journalists (AJI), the information and electronic transaction law, which aims to regulate online content, has been used to prosecute at least 25 journalists in recent years, some of whom have been jailed.

  The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) says it is frustrated by the lack of progress made in bringing persons who slew investigative journalist, Ahmed Hussein Saule, to book two years after the incident. Mrs. Linda Asante-Agyei, Vice President of the GJA, who made the statement, said the incident remained a bloat on Ghana s image as a beacon of democracy and a champion of press freedom on the continent. Speaking at a ceremony to mark this year’s World Press Freedom Day in Accra on Tuesday, the GJA Vice President, called on the security apparatus to expedite investigations into the murder to bring the perpetrators to justice and offer respite to the family of the journalist.
