BEIJING, April 24 (Xinhua) Japanese animation film Detective Conan: The Scarlet Bullet led the Chinese mainland box office on Friday, with daily earnings reaching more than 9 million yuan (around 1.4 million U.S. dollars), data from the China Movie Data Information Network showed Saturday.
As the 24th cinematic installment in the Detective Conan animation franchise, the film s plot revolves around the protagonist s investigation into a series of kidnapping incidents involving the opening ceremony of the World Sports Games in Tokyo and the launch of a cutting-edge bullet train in line with the event.
The latest installment in this franchise of films was part of the 2020 line-up as
Case Closed: The Scarlet Bullet, which was set for an April 17th, 2020 theatrical debut but was put on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We learned in June that it had been pushed back to an April 2021 release with a firmer date to come much later. That recently some clarity as the film has been set for an April 16th, 2021 debut for it where it’s getting released in 22 countries worldwide.
With the film hitting in Japan and displacing the
Evangelion film at the box office, Australian distributor Madman Entertainment has picked up the theatrical exhibition rights to it with plans for what looks to be a May 13th, 2021 debut at several locations.
