Travel to the EU after Brexit: What will change?

You ll be able to stay for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. The rules for Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus and Romania are different. You could make a 90-day trip to any of them and still not use up your 90-day allowance for other EU countries. And you can stay in the Republic of Ireland for as long as you like. Does the 90-day rule still apply if I own a second-home in the EU? Yes, it certainly does. Will I need a visa to visit the EU? You may need a visa or permit to stay for longer, to work or study, or for business travel – this will vary by country.

Having been almost 4 years since the UK actually voted to leave the EU, the UK managed to agree on a deal in the nick of time with just a week of transition period left. The deal avoids the difficulty of no-deal Brexit and also marks the start of a new era between the United Kingdom and the European Union.   In terms of travel, the legal scripture essentially states that UK nationals will need a visa if they want to stay in the EU for more than 90 days in a 180-day period. Additionally, it has been made clear that all EHICs cards issued before 2020 may still be used when travelling to the EU until their expiry date. After this the UK government are planning on introducing a new card called the Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC) but further details will emerge on how to obtain this in the future.
