Dryden Hospital To Reduce Non-Emergency Surgeries

Dryden Regional Health Centre/CKDR Files Along with other hospitals across the province, the Dryden Regional Health Centre will limit non-emergency surgeries. On April 21, the Ministry of Health directed all Ontario hospitals to ramp down non-urgent and non-emergent surgeries and procedures, to preserve capacity in the healthcare system to help deal with COVID-19 patients throughout the province. The DRHC says patients will be contacted if their surgery or procedure will be cancelled but assures all other services including urgent surgeries and procedures will continue as planned. “The COVID situation in other parts of the province is quite alarming,” says Doreen Armstrong-Ross, Chief Executive Officer at the Dryden Regional Health Centre. “We are prepared to assist the province in any that we can to help protect the healthcare system, and save lives. This is to open up space in intensive care units (ICU) across the province as a record number of patients are being admitted to ICUs. According to the province, there are currently 2,350 Ontarians that are hospitalized with COVID-19, 806 patients in the ICU with a COVID-related illness, and 588 in ICU on a ventilator due to COVID-related illness. As health officials work to transfer ICU COVID-19 patients from hospitals in southern Ontario to hospitals across the province, Ray Racette, President and Chief Executive Officer at the Lake of the Woods District Hospital says he doesn t expect any patients to be transferred to Kenora.

Dryden Hospital Will Continue Elective Surgeries

Dryden, ON, Canada / CKDR Apr 9, 2021 2:17 PM All non-essential surgeries and other services will be put on hold in most parts of Ontario starting Monday due to overwhelmed hospitals and a beleaguered health care system. However, hospitals in northern Ontario will be allowed to continue the procedures. The Dryden Regional Health Centre and other local hospitals say they will continue to perform elective surgeries and provide all other services as scheduled. Saying that officials say at the request of Ontario Health, the hospital is prepared to ramp down non-urgent and emergency services and elective surgeries on short notice if required. The public will be informed right away if that decision is made.

Through the Dryden Rotary Charity Foundation over a hundred thousand dollars is being dolled out across various regional projects and initiatives. With these recent donations, the Dryden Club has donated over 2 million dollars in the last 15 years towards eligible organizations. Some of the highlights from recent donations include the Dryden Regional Health Centre on the receiving end of 35 thousand dollars for their Digital X Ray machine, 25 thousand dollars in support of Youth Minor Sports, 12 thousand 5 hundred dollars to the Dryden Food Bank and various funds going towards high school scholarships.
