Cairo, May 10 : Egyptian Health Minister Hala Zayed has said Egypt will start locally producing China s Sinovac Covid-19 vaccine in June.
During a press conference in Cairo, the minister on Sunday said that the first 2 million doses will be produced in June at the plants of the Egyptian Holding Company for Biological Products and Vaccines (VACSERA), Xinhua news agency reported. We will receive the first shipment of the raw materials needed to manufacture the vaccine on May 18, Zayed told reporters, adding that 40 million doses will be produced in the first year.

CAIRO - Egyptian Health Minister Hala Zayed said on Sunday that Egypt will start locally producing China s Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine in June.
During a press conference in Cairo, the minister said that the first 2 million doses will be produced in June at the plants of the Egyptian Holding Company for Biological Products and Vaccines (VACSERA). Zayed noted that two agreements were signed between Sinovac and the VACSERA in April, with the first one enabling the Egyptian side to obtain the expertise and technical assistance to produce the vaccine, while the second giving the VACSERA the license to manufacture and pack the vaccine in its factories.

Egyptian Health Minister Hala Zayed expressed appreciation for the ICRC s assistance and for the continued cooperation between the ICRC and her ministry to support the healthcare system and workers.
The ICRC donation, worth 9 million Egyptian pounds, includes 15 oxygen concentrators, masks, gowns and non-touch thermometers. The ICRC is keen to contribute to the ministry of health s vital response to the pandemic in its second year. We stand ready to provide further support as needed. This is a global crisis and we are in it together, said Dr. Gilles Carbonnier, Vice President of the ICRC, during his meeting with the minister.
CAIRO: Two agreements have been signed between the Egyptian Holding Company for Biological Products and Vaccines (Vacsera), and the Chinese company Sinovac Biotech for biopharmaceuticals, to manufacture the coronavirus vaccine in Egypt.
The signing of the agreements comes as part of efforts to achieve technical cooperation in this vital field.
The plan is to take advantage of the vaccine developed by the Chinese company Sinovac, a leader in research, development, production and marketing in pharmaceutical preparations, and exchange experiences to support Vacsera, a specialist in the manufacture of vaccines in Egypt.
The move is expected to contribute to limiting the spread of the virus.
