Rillton man charged after woman claims he hit her with car following argument

A 36-year-old Rillton man is being held in the county jail on $25,000 bond on following his weekend arrest in which state police accused him of striking his girlfriend with a car as he drove away after an argument. Ryan J. Dancy was charged with disorderly conduct, harassment and simple assault by state police in Belle Vernon after the 3:30 p.m. Saturday incident that occurred in the parking lot of a Dollar General store at 160 Mt. Pleasant Road in South Huntingdon. State police were asked to meet at the West Newton police station with a 39-year-old woman who was injured in the store parking lot, Trooper Anthony Parente reported in court documents.

The Family Additions Maternity Center at Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital made Newsweek’s list of Best Maternity Hospitals 2021. Excela Health is one of 217 hospitals across 36 states on the annual list compiled by the news magazine in partnership with The Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit organization that reports on the safety and quality performance of U.S. health care facilities. To be considered for the list, hospitals must demonstrate adherence to various standards for excellence in maternity care, including low rates of C-section, episiotomy and early elective deliveries, along with following protocols to protect mothers and babies.

North Versailles man pleads guilty in teen rape case spanning Allegheny, Westmoreland counties

An Allegheny County man pleaded guilty Wednesday to repeatedly raping a teenage girl in 2019. Police said that starting in June 2019, Daniel E. Powell, 37, of North Versailles forcibly raped a 17-year-old girl and continued the sexual assaults through September. According to court records, the victim in February told investigators at Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital in Greensburg that Powell forced her into “unwanted” sexual activity when he grabbed her arms and pinned her down at homes in North Versailles and Hempfield. The case was prosecuted in Westmoreland County. Powell pleaded guilty to felony counts of rape, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, child endangerment and a related offense.

Southwest Greensburg woman accused of providing fatal dose in June drug OD death

Police arrested a Southwest Greensburg woman this week, accusing her of providing drugs to a man who later died of an overdose, according to court papers. Jennifer Lynn Gartland, 45, is charged with drug delivery resulting in death, possession with intent to deliver and child endangerment. Southwest Greensburg police said they were called to Gartland’s home just before 6 a.m. June 16 and found Richard J. Conti unresponsive, according to court papers. The 47-year-old was taken to Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital, where he died the next day. Toxicology reports showed that he had a lethal level of fentanyl in his system, police said.
