Even though they’ve just graduated from high school, a select few among the Class of 2021 have already charted a course beyond the next four years in college.
8 FORT EUSTIS, Va. – U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command honored two of their own this Memorial Day during a memorialization ceremony for Gen. John W. Foss and Gen. William W. Hartzog to honor their leadership and legacy on May 27, 2021. The ceremony was part of the larger Fort Eustis hosted “Remember the Fallen” event.
The TRADOC leadership conference rooms were re-named in dedication of the commanders. The Executive Conference Room is now the Gen. Foss Conference Room, and the Command Conference Room is now the Gen. Hartzog Conference Room.
During the ceremony, Funk gave honors to the Foss and Hartzog families, as well as the nation’s fallen military men and women.
Military needs talent retention program

For many years, the Ministry of National Defense has encouraged and selected outstanding military personnel to study at foreign military academies. However, most students, on returning to Taiwan, simply serve out the minimum term of service and then leave the military. This damaging retention problem must be properly addressed by each branch of the military, and measures must be implemented to improve the situation.
A report by the ministry said that since 2016, seven graduates from foreign military colleges have resigned immediately on completion of their statutory 10-year basic service, and another two graduates left the military before completing their term.

NEW LONDON NOTES: Nestor gives Memorial Day address

Mother Nature smiled on the village’s Memorial Day activities that began at the Legion Hall and ended in Memorial Park.
American Legion 292 Commander Dave Smith welcomed the crowd to the ceremony and said, “Today, we meet to honor those who did so much to keep us free.” He then introduced Kevin Nestor who gave the day’s address.
A 1975 New London High School and 1979 graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, Nestor served in the Army, the Ohio Army National Guard and the Army Reserve.
