USWNT s reason for no longer taking the knee during the national anthem

Following the death of George Floyd in May 2020 - an unarmed black man who was killed by a white police officer - sports teams across the globe have protested against racial inequality by taking the knee.
The gesture was first adopted by American Football quarterback Colin Kaepernick in August 2016 when he knelt instead of standing during the US national anthem to protest against police brutality and systematic racism.

Defenders Tierna Davidson and Casey Krueger, midfielder Julie Ertz, goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher and forward Mal Pugh were named to the list of allocated players by the U.S. Soccer Federation. Defender Bianca St. Georges is a newly allocated player in 2021 by Canada Soccer.
Morgan Gautrat is no longer allocated by U.S. soccer.

The simplest explanation is that their salaries will be paid for by the U.S. Soccer Federation and Canada Soccer, respectively. This frees up money for teams to invest in better salaries for other players.

The entire U.S. Women s National Team team stood for the national anthem ahead of their 2-0 victory against Brazil on Sunday, after months of some players kneeling during the anthem.
Prior to their win in the SheBelieves Cup in Orlando, the team decided to stand collectively for The Star Spangled Banner, including star Megan Rapinoe, who began kneeling in 2016 and was one of free agent NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick s early supporters. Since the protests over the racial justice that erupted after George Floyd s death last year, some team members had been kneeling – until Sunday.
