WASHINGTON, Feb. 23, 2021 /PRNewswire/ American manufacturers Globe Specialty Metals, Inc., a subsidiary of Ferroglobe PLC (NASDAQ:GSM) ( GSM ), and Mississippi Silicon LLC ( MS ), representing the majority of American silicon metal production, today applauded news that the U.S. Department of Commerce ( Commerce ) will impose final antidumping (AD) and countervailing (CVD) duties of up to 160% on silicon metal imports from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Iceland, and Kazakhstan.
Next, the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) will vote whether to affirm its preliminary decision that these imports have injured the U.S. industry. Assuming the outcome is affirmative, formal orders will be published shortly thereafter. The ITC is scheduled to vote on March 24.

Automaker Ford is calling on South Korean battery manufacturer LG Chem to settle a dispute with one of its key suppliers, SK Innovation.
Earlier this month, LG Chem won a key ruling at the US International Trade Commission (ITC), which found that SK Innovation had violated its rival’s patents, and ordered an import ban.
But the ruling did allow customers such as Ford a grace period to find alternative suppliers. The Detroit-based automaker’s CEO took to Twitter to call for a voluntary settlement between both parties.
“While we’re pleased the ITC ruling makes way for Ford to bring to market our groundbreaking electric F-150, a voluntary settlement between these two suppliers is ultimately in the best interest of US manufacturers and workers,” Jim Farley wrote.

Editorial: Redistricting just got more complicated
Ohio’s experiments in drawing fairer congressional and state legislative districts haven’t even gotten underway and already they’re in trouble.
That’s because the U.S. Census Bureau will be late in reporting the data needed to redraw the districts. Very late.
The bureau had planned to deliver the data by March 31, but announced Friday that it wouldn’t do so until Sept. 30. Other states are in the same boat.
It was, as Ohio House Minority Leader Emilia Strong Sykes, D-Akron, said, “a disappointing setback.” She called on the legislative task force responsible for redistricting to begin its work, including seeking public input.
