A veteran Williamsport Bureau of Police lieutentant claims in a federal lawsuit that he was passed over for promotions because he filed complaints on behalf of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 29 against anti-union activity.
Lt. Steven Helm, supervisor of daywatch, this week asserted in the complaint in U.S. Middle District Court his rights to free speech were violated. The lawsuit identified Mayor Derek Slaughter, former Mayor Gabriel J. Campana and the City of Williamsport as defendants.
Slaughter, who returned a telephone call for comment, said any statements regarding the lawsuit would need to come from J. David Smith or Austin White, the city solicitors and firm of McCormick Law.
Pa. couple accused of using fraudulently obtained paycheck protection loan to buy bitcoins

WILLIAMSPORT – A Bloomsburg couple has been accused of fraudulently using Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) funds to illegally obtain loans that were used to purchase more than $350,000 in bitcoins.
Darryl Corradini, 63, and Vicki Hackbenberg, 57, are to be arraigned Friday on charges contained in an indictment unsealed in U.S. Middle District Court.
Part of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act (CARES), the Paycheck Protection Program authorizes forgivable loans to small businesses facing financial difficulties during the pandemic.
Corradini and Hackenberg are accused of creating a shell corporation, CGM Realty LLC, in December 2019 to apply for PPP loans.

LEBANON COUNTY, Pa. A 55-year-old Lebanon man will serve up to 70 months in federal prison after a sentencing hearing Thursday in U.S. Middle District Court.
Stefen Knoche admitted to trafficking in counterfeit drugs, according to U.S. Attorney Bruce D. Brandler. In addition to his prison term, Knoche was ordered to pay $3,648,911.18 in restitution by U.S. District Court Judge Sylvia Rambo.
Brandler said Knoche previously admitted that he intentionally trafficked drugs, knowing them to contain counterfeit marks of pharmaceutical manufacturers Pfizer Pharmaceuticals, Bayer AG, Eli Lilly and Company, and Roche Holding AG between May 2017 and April 2018.
