Camille Erickson A new rule will take effect on the first day of the new year aimed at reducing the regulatory burden carried by Wyoming s soda ash producers for the next decade. The U.S. Bureau of Land Management said the finalized rule change will not only give the federal government the ability to grant relief on royalties and other fees for the non-energy mineral producers, but the revisions will also “remove unnecessary and overly burdensome requirements” to bolster trona mining in the U.S.  The royalty rate for federal soda ash and sodium bicarbonate leases will be reduced from 6% to 2% once the new rule goes into effect on Jan. 1.

BLM Approves 5,000-Well Oil and Gas Field in Converse County CHEYENNE (AP) U.S. officials have approved a 5,000-well oil and gas project spread across more than 2,300 square miles in Converse County. Five major oil and gas companies proposed the development between Glenrock and Douglas that has stirred concern over its massive size and plans to drill year-round. Wednesday s approval from the U.S. Bureau of Land Management finalizes the development plan, but actual construction will require separate approvals. Federal officials say the oil and gas field would create more than 8,000 jobs and between $18 billion and $28 billion in revenue.
