It is alleged that the Providence resident attempted to hire a person to kill two others. One of those he was targeting for murder, according to the Justice Department was another contractor he claimed owed him $8,500 and who had threatened to harm Vinas family if he did not stop his repeated requests for payment, and the second target was an employee of the contractor. It is alleged in court documents that on April 19, 2021, Vinas had a chance meeting with an acquaintance. Vinas told that person of his unsuccessful attempts to collect money he was owed by a contractor, of the contractor’s threat against his family, and that he wanted to hire someone to kill the contractor and another man. East Greenwich film producer indicted in alleged `Magic Mike investment scheme PROVIDENCE The East Greenwich man who co-produced a 2019 film about one of the nation’s most audacious heists is facing charges that he swindled would-be investors in his Las Vegas stage show of $4.2 million. John A. Shirley Buchanan was indicted on one count of theft of public funds and three counts of wire fraud. She is scheduled to make an initial appearance before U.S. District Court Magistrate Judge Jennifer Boal on Monday, the same day she was arrested. Buchanan, authorities said, maintained and used two Social Security numbers under two names to apply for and receive Social Security and SNAP benefits that she was not entitled to.
