Agustin Vinas, 51, has been ordered detained in federal custody in an alleged murder-for-hire plot. It is alleged that the Providence resident attempted to hire a person to kill two others.
One of those he was targeting for murder, according to the Justice Department was another contractor he claimed owed him $8,500 and who had threatened to harm Vinas family if he did not stop his repeated requests for payment, and the second target was an employee of the contractor.
It is alleged in court documents that on April 19, 2021, Vinas had a chance meeting with an acquaintance. Vinas told that person of his unsuccessful attempts to collect money he was owed by a contractor, of the contractor’s threat against his family, and that he wanted to hire someone to kill the contractor and another man. 23-year-old man from Providence accused of driving to Massachusetts to sell fentanyl in exchange for guns

A 23-year-old man from Providence, who was previously convicted on drug charges and awaiting trial on assault and gun charges, now faces federal charges linked to delivering fentanyl to customers in Massachusetts and, at times, trading for firearms as payment, according to the U.S. Attorney’s office in Rhode Island.
Joaquin Fabian was detained on drug trafficking and weapons charges following an investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and Providence police.
Fabian appeared before U.S. District Court Magistrate Judge Lincoln D. PROVIDENCE The East Greenwich man who co-produced a 2019 film about one of the nation’s most audacious heists is facing charges that he swindled would-be investors in his Las Vegas stage show of $4.2 million.
John A. Santilli Jr., 47, a producer who worked on movies such as There’s Something About Mary and the more recent Vault , was arrested Tuesday morning at home in Rhode Island on a 10-count indictment out of California based on allegations stemming from Magic Mike Live , a stage show chronicling the life of a male stripper. The charges include eight counts of wire fraud and one count each of fraud and aggravated identity theft.

A 66-year-old woman from Cambridge is accused of stealing Social Security and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits totaling nearly $200,000 in a scheme that began in 1993, the U.S. Attorney’s office announced.
Shirley Buchanan was indicted on one count of theft of public funds and three counts of wire fraud. She is scheduled to make an initial appearance before U.S. District Court Magistrate Judge Jennifer Boal on Monday, the same day she was arrested.
Buchanan, authorities said, maintained and used two Social Security numbers under two names to apply for and receive Social Security and SNAP benefits that she was not entitled to.
