LAS CRUCES – Under a new directive, all new Doña Ana County employees will be required to be vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of employment. The policy was announced in a Saturday return-to-work memorandum from County Manager Fernando Macias, a copy of which was obtained by the Las Cruces Sun-News and verified as authentic by County Attorney Nelson Goodin. The memo says county employees will resume working on-site effective June 1, with all locations adhering to the New Mexico Department of Health’s public orders pertaining to the COVID-19 pandemic, including changes to the state’s mask mandate Friday that drop mandatory face coverings for fully vaccinated individuals in most situations.
