The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Friday released new guidance on how colleges can operate safely amid the Covid-19 pandemic, the severity of which is rapidly easing in the United States. Among other things, the guidance states that colleges “where everyone is fully vaccinated” may return to full, in-person learning without requiring or recommending the wearing of masks or requiring that students be regularly tested.
For campuses where not all students and employees will be vaccinated, the CDC’s recommendations are less clear-cut. On those campuses, administrators should take into account the rate of community transmission and the percentage of the campus that is vaccinated, among other factors, in setting policy, the agency said. Among the CDC’s explicit recommendations for these campuses: Unvaccinated students living in on-campus housing should live in single-occupancy rooms “when feasible.”
Fatal crashes involving teens expected to rise during 100 deadliest days of summer

HAMPTON ROADS, Va.â The period between Memorial Day and Labor Day is known as the 100 deadliest days of summer for teen drivers.
Last year in Virginia, 72 fatalities resulted from teen driver involved crashes last year, according to AAA Tidewater Virginia. Thirty of those deaths happened during the 100 deadliest day, and half of those 30 deaths were teenagers.
âThey need to understand the risk that is involved as they drive. They can t control anybody else but their own actions,â said Kate Wilson, Manager of Public Affairs and Traffic Safety for AAA Tidewater Virginia.

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Friday, Michael Washington took his first step towards getting vaccinated against COVID-19.
âOne step at a time,â Washington said. âIt was very wonderful. In and out, just like that.â
He received his first Moderna dose at Legacy Lab Services in Williamsburg.
âThe first part of it is over, [and] now, on forward,â he said. âI was skeptical about it for a long time, then my mom convinced me. She s diabetic, so she s got hers, and I m a diabetic also.â
For the last month, Legacy Lab Services CEO Arleigh Hatcher has been calling the shots daily at her clinic.
