China has threatened a counterstrike against Australia after Canberra condemned Beijing s mass arrest of 55 politicians and activists in Hong Kong. Foreign Ministry spokesman Lijian Zhao, who has a fake image of an Australian soldier holding a bloody knife to a child s throat pinned to the top of his Twitter account, said anyone who gets in the way of China s affairs would suffer. The Chinese people s resolve to defend our sovereignty and territorial integrity is unshakeable and we will not permit any person or force to stop the process of China s reunification, he told a press briefing on Monday.  Any actions which harm China s core interests will be met with a resolute counterstrike and will not succeed.
