A year ago, George Floyd s chilling last words, I can t breathe, sent shock waves around the world. A guilty verdict came down April 20, but Black Americans had no time to celebrate the rare occurrence of a White police officer being convicted of the murder of a Black man. The next day, Andrew Brown Jr. was fatally shot by sheriff s deputies in North Carolina, and the officers will not face criminal charges because the district attorney ruled that the shooting was justified.

William S Coleman III City Council elections voting change

WORCESTER Time and age and history are funny things to think about some time.  William S. Coleman III is 66, but he said he feels like he s still 22, the first year he ran for office in the city. He hasn t been on every ballot since 1976, but it s close. He s giving it another go this year, in the at-large race for City Council.  For someone who has never quite been able to harness whatever it is that puts candidates over the edge in elections, Coleman remains an optimist about his chances, and a realist about his role.  I m determined, Coleman said in a recent interview. My determination is steadfast. I m a New Englander when it comes down to persistence. But I want to open up the process to the people. If I get elected, I realize my future on the council won t be as long as my past. I m not looking at 10 years down the road.

Robert Hill: Don t cry for Liz Cheney, America

Robert Hill: Don’t cry for Liz Cheney, America By Robert Hill © Provided by Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Liz Cheney met her demise as a Republican party flunky because she has abandoned former President Donald John Trump. She rejects the big lie that he won the 2020 presidential election. And she believes he should be held accountable for his thugs’ deadly Jan. 6 seditious raid on the U.S. Capitol. On Jan. 13, she voted to impeach the 45th president. Other than that, U.S. Rep. Cheney is a Trumpster. But that’s a lot of thats, at least enough to kick the Wyoming Republican out of the ranks of titled Grand Old Party sycophants. The University of Chicago Law School alumna is shocked, shocked to learn the 45th president is lawless. She is thus out of right-wing favor. But, don’t cry for Liz, America. As my sainted mother often observed, “When you lie down with dogs, you come up with fleas.”
