Cuomo’s Covid policies for disabled group homes face scrutiny

Albany, N.Y. At the urging of his Republican colleagues, state Sen. James Skoufis who chairs the chamber’s investigations committee said he is interested in examining Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo’s Covid-19 policies at group home facilities for people with developmental disabilities, which have mirrored those of nursing homes.
Skoufis said he had discussed the issue on a call Sunday night with Sen. Mike Martucci, the top Republican on the disabilities committee. Senate Republicans followed up with a letter Monday, signed by four members, asking Skoufis to initiate an investigation of the matter.
‘Let’s keep pounding this drum’: Republicans seek subpoena for NY’s nursing home policies

Albany, N.Y. Republicans are continuing to press for subpoenas to be used to compel Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo’s administration to provide documents and testimony about its handling of coronavirus in nursing homes, including records documenting the decision-making that guided the treatment and protection of elderly residents and their caretakers.
The political pressure has intensified in the wake of a report last week from the state attorney general’s office that determined the health department had undercounted nursing home fatalities by roughly 50 percent at a time when criticism of the administration’s policies governing the facilities was mounting.

Albany, N.Y. Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo finished off his four-part State of the State Thursday with an address focusing on construction projects around the state, but particularly transportation development in New York City.
The governor attempted throughout the speech to draw a line from himself to former New York governor and President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Cuomo quoted from Roosevelt’s speeches, pointed out that he lives and works where Roosevelt used to reside and said his own infrastructure policies were inspired by Roosevelt’s New Deal and his investment in public works during the Great Depression.
