ROME: Sixteenth seed Grigor Dimitrov crashed out of the Italian Open in the first round on Tuesday when he was beaten in straight sets by Spanish qualifier Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.
The world No. 48 saved two set points in the second set as he dismissed the 2014 semifinalist Dimitrov 6-4, 7-6 (7/2) to win in one hour and 43 minutes.
Tenth seed Roberto Bautista Agut booked his place in the second round with a comfortable 6-3, 6-4 win over American Tommy Paul.
On the women’s side, Argentinian Nadia Podoroska, ranked 44 in the world, assured herself of a second round meeting with Serena Williams, playing her first event since the Australian Open, when she came from a set down to beat German Laura Siegemund 2-6, 7-6 (7/3), 6-1.Madison Keys won the battle of the Americans when she overcame Sloane Stephens 4-6, 6-2, 7-5.

MELBOURNE, May 12 (Reuters) - Oil prices rose on Wednesday, extending overnight gains, after industry data showed a drop in U.S. crude inventories, which reinforced OPEC’s robust demand outlook, and as the shutdown of the biggest U.S. fuel pipeline headed into a sixth day.
U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures rose 21 cents, or 0.3%, to $65.49 a barrel at 0013 GMT, adding to a 36 cent rise on Tuesday.
Brent crude futures climbed 15 cents, or 0.2%, to $68.70 a barrel, adding to a 23 cent gain on Tuesday.
“Crude oil gained as investors continue to bet on a bright outlook for demand. A weak U.S. dollar also lent support,” ANZ Research said in a note.

Vienna, May 12 (Prensa Latina) The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) reported that their joint production increased to 25.08 million barrels a day (mbd) in April.
The data corresponds to 13 partners and accounts for 26,000 barrels a day (bd) more than in March, mainly due to the work of Iran, Saudi Arabia and Nigeria.
The report indicated that the country with the highest increase in its extractions was Nigeria, totaling 1,548,000 bd last month, which represents a rise of 75,000 bd compared to March.
Iran and Saudi Arabia are next, with additional 73,000 and 34,000 bd to the market, respectively, increasing their extractions to 3.92 and 8.13 million bd.
