A pair of veteran Silicon Valley venture capitalists plan to accelerate the end of the fossil-fuel era from an unlikely perch.
(Bloomberg) Veteran Silicon Valley venture capitalists Neal Dikeman and Craig Lawrence plan to accelerate the end of the fossil-fuel era from an unlikely perch: Houston.
The U.S. oil epicenter is lacking in startup talent to match its hoards of investment capital and technical expertise, a gap Dikeman and Lawrence intend to fill. With financial backing from South Korean conglomerate GS Group, Energy Transition Ventures plans to explore post-fossil fuel technologies from electric-vehicle charging to carbon capture and hydrogen fuel.
The Railroad Commission of Texas issued 798 original drilling permits in March 2021.
The Railroad Commission of Texas (RRC) reported late last week that it issued a total of 798 original drilling permits in March 2021, which amounts to 54 more permits than its March 2020 total.
“The March 2021 total includes 682 permits to drill new oil or gas wells, 13 to re-enter plugged well bores, and 99 for re-completions of existing well bores,” RRC noted in a written statement. “The breakdown of well types for original drilling permits in March 2021 is 187 oil, 50 gas, 537 oil or gas, 13 injection, and 11 other permits.”
Based on information provided by RRC, the agency’s Midland District – which covers much of the Permian Basin – accounted for 56% (379) of the 682 permits in March to drill new oil or gas wells, 78% (428) of the 552 new oil completions for the period, and 49% (65) of the month’s 134 new gas completions.

A major operator has awarded Shearwater GeoServices Holding AS a 3D seismic survey in Vietnam, Shearwater reported Monday.
The marine geophysical firm did not reveal the operator’s identity, but it stated that it has gained experience in Vietnam – and has worked for the operator multiple times – in recent years.
“This award contributes to an already strong portfolio of projects in the Asia Pacific region announced in recent weeks as market conditions improved,” remarked Shearwater CEO Irene Waage Basili in a written statement emailed to Rigzone.
