Imbert: Still no deal with Patriotic

FINANCE Minister Colm Imbert has further crushed any hopes Patriotic Energies and Technologies Co Ltd many have had of buying the Guaracara refinery, after they met virtually on Thursday.
In a release on Friday morning, Imbert, in his capacity as Finance Minister and Corporation Sole, confirmed, “The Cabinet decision of Thursday February 18, 2021 on this matter, that was announced at the press conference held on that same day, stands.
Patriotic said it had no comment to make at this time.

Retrenched workers of Trinidad Packaging Ltd (TPL), a subsidiary of Trinidad Cement Ltd (TCL), protested on Monday morning, calling for the immediate payments of outstanding money.
From around 8 am, a small group gathered at the front of the TCL plant at the Southern Main Road in Claxton Bay. One placard read, Sent home with no money, and another, TPL now, who next?
Speaking on behalf of the 40-plus retrenched workers, former senior operator Nigel Ifill accused the company of breaking its promise to pay off the retrenched group.

REJECTED by Government three times in the past year, Patriotic Energies and Technologies Company Ltd vows to fight back to acquire and operate the Guaracara refinery.
“The country will lose a glorious opportunity if we fold and go,” Ancel Roget, president general of the Oilfield Workers’ Trade Union (OWTU) and Patriotic’s chairman, said on Friday.
He spoke at a news conference at the OWTU’s Paramount Building, San Fernando, one day after Finance Minister Colm Imbert announced Government would no longer entertain Patriotic’s offer.
