Love You: Public Policy For Intergenerational Wellbeing By Girol Karacaoglu

We are in the middle of a systemic environmental, social and economic crisis. So says Girol Karacaoglu, a former Chief Economist at the NZ Treasury who these days heads up the School of Government at Victoria University. Although he’s not alone – Girol stresses to me over Zoom that this is a view shared by “the most orthodox institutions you can think of” referring to the Treasury in its evidence for the 2019 Budget and Secretary-General of the OECD, Angel Gurria, in a 2019 speech. His new book is intended primarily as a challenge to young people: change the way that New Zealand

Wales is hosting a virtual 72-hour-long celebration for St David s Day

Our nearest neighbours are planning a monumental 72-hour live-stream event planned to celebrate St David’s Day. The Welsh Government, and partners, have three days of live stream events, to highlight the importance of ‘doing good things’. The eclectic programme of events spans, arts, cultural, music, food, story-telling and stargazing. The unique event will take place from tomorrow until Monday (St David’s Day March 1) and they want us to get involved too by logging onto visitingwales.com or their @walesdotcom social channels. St David, the patron saint of Wales, believed in doing the little things that make a big difference hence the inspiration for this year’s ambitious celebrations.

From Cerys Matthews to online yoga classes, don t miss these virtual St David s Day events this weekend

How about a virtual trip to Wales this weekend? While many of us are stuck indoors and international travel is a serious no-no for the time being, there’s no reason why we can’t immerse ourselves in other cultures from the comfort of our couches. St David’s Day has gone online this year as a result of Covid-19, and this series of activities and events is a great way to celebrate our cross-cultural ties with our friends and neighbours across the Irish Sea. St David, the patron saint of Wales, believed in doing the little things that make a big difference and his most famous saying was ‘Do the small things.’

What steps are being taken to ensure consistency in remote learning in schools across Wales?

Mark Isherwood, MS for North Wales By Mark Isherwood, MS for North Wales Speaking in the Welsh Parliament, I called for a Welsh Government Statement responding to the call by North Wales Police Federation for Policing to be considered for some priority on the Covid-19 vaccination programme . As they told me: day in, day out, police officers put their own safety, health and wellbeing at risk whilst protecting us all. Sadly, in North Wales, we have seen many colleagues who have become unwell with Covid-19, some requiring hospital treatment, and many more having to self-isolate . I also emphasised the need for autistic adults with a learning disability to be prioritised for the Covid-19 vaccine, quoting a constituent who stated My brother has a learning disability and Autism. Recent research by Public Health England stated that the death rate from Covid-19 is six times higher for people with a learning disability than the general population .
