John William Kiefling was born Dec. 31, 1938, in Sheridan. John, an only child, enjoyed his childhood participating in many sports and activities with his good buddies. He especially enjoyed hanging out with the cowboy wranglers on the Kendrick Cattle Ranch in northern Wyoming when he was younger. His father, George Kiefling, an engineer for the Burlington Northern Railroad, and mother, Louise Kiefling, a homemaker, predeceased him and always supported his endeavors.
John graduated from Sheridan High School in May 1956. While in high school he so wanted to play football for the Sheridan Broncs but was deemed too small. Utah boy catches 48-pound trout six months after landing 41-pounder
UPI News Service, 12/29/2020
Wildlife officials in Utah said a 11-year-old boy landed a massive 48-pound trout just six months after reeling in a 41-pound trout.
ADVERTISEMENT The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources said Tyler Grimshaw drew attention online in June when the then-10-year-old reeled in a 41-pound trout without any assistance at Flaming Gorge.
Grimshaw, now 11, bested his own catch this month by reeling in a 48-pound trout in the same area.
Both fish were released back into the lake. Way to go, Tyler, the division tweeted.
The Utah state record for lake trout stands at 53 pounds, 15 ounces. The record was set by Chance Scott at the Flaming Gorge Reservoir, the same place Grimshaw caught both of his fish.
