Food Boxes Distributed to Northland People in Need

HERMANTOWN, Minn. – The Duluth YMCA with the Boys and Girls Club of the Northland to help those struggling their families during the pandemic.

About 1,300 boxes with over 30,000 pounds of food were at the Essentia Wellness Center in Hermantown or at the Essentia Heritage Center in Lincoln Park ready to be distributed to Northlanders in need of free food.

Union Gospel Mission uses cash donations to provide hot meals, warm clothing and hygiene kits to people in need. Meal hours:
Breakfast: Wednesday, 8:30-9 a.m.
Lunch: Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, noon-12:30 p.m.
Dinner: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, 4:15-5 p.m.

St. Luke’s Foundation is asking for donations of children’s toys (no small pieces), crayons, coloring books, puzzles, books, games that can be played solo, small radios and phone chargers. All donated goods can be dropped off at St. Luke’s Foundation, 1000 E. First St., Suite 102, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday-Friday. Donated items will be sanitized and quarantined prior to patient use or (when appropriate) redistribution. Call Meagan Avery, Development Associate, at 218-249-2543.

DULUTH, Minn.- This week is the last for the Duluth Area Family YMCA’s Meal Kit Distribution Program, which donated thousands of meals to people in need during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Leadership with the YMCA said since March of this year they have given out more than 45,000 meal kits at the Downtown Duluth YMCA, Gary New Duluth Recreation Center, Harbor Highlands Community Center, and Essentia Wellness Center in Hermantown.
The meal kits included fruits, vegetables, boxed and canned foods, and a $15 meal voucher to Super One.
