EHIF plans to start home vaccinations this week

Home vaccinations for people with reduced mobility are planned to start this week in Tartu and Tallinn, the Estonian Health Insurance Fund (Haigekassa) has said. Speaking on Tuesday afternoon, Maivi Parv, member of the Estonian Health Insurance Fund s (EHIF) board, said 2,400 doses of the single-dose Janssen vaccine are due to arrive in Estonia this week and health care workers are already being trained to administer it. Parv said the EHIF has already mapped the need for the vaccine in Tartu and Tallinn and it will be carried out by the home nursing service. Hopefully, it will start at the end of the week although some details need to be smoothed out.

Thousands of AstraZeneca doses have not been used in Estonia

Thousands of AstraZeneca doses are still in storage because the over 60s target group do not trust the vaccine. Many are waiting for the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine instead. ETV s current affairs show Aktuaalne kaamera (AK) reported on Wednesday that 3,000 of the 9,000 doses allocated to family doctors from the AstraZeneca delivery last week have not been used. Additionally, 2,000 doses were left over from the mass vaccinations in Tallinn last weekend but family doctors have only requested 600. AK spoke to family doctor Alina Terep in Jüri, Harju County who said she would not order doses as she does not have time to call elderly people and convince them the vaccine is safe.

Estonia adopts a vaccine distribution app built by volunteers

Estonia adopts a vaccine distribution app built by volunteers By 0shares Family physicians and the Estonian Health Insurance Fund have started using an application developed by Estonian logistics startup Sixfold along with a team of volunteers whose aim is to facilitate a more efficient distribution and delivery of the COVID-19 vaccines. At the beginning of March, a joint workgroup was assembled by the Estonian state and various leading tech entrepreneurs, to find ways in which the private sector could contribute to resolving the coronavirus crisis. The challenge set focused on how the vaccines could better reach family physicians and onwards to the general public, and was chosen from among the ideas offered by the workgroup. A digital vaccine delivery solution was created within three weeks that, as of the time of writing this article, is being used by the planners of the Health Insurance Fund and physicians. The application helps save thousands of valuable work time hours
