Students’ union warns the now compulsory placements put student wellbeing “at risk”
But open letter criticised on social media for calling nursing and HCA tasks “menial”
Students at a London medical school have demanded an immediate end to their “compulsory” reassignment covering nurse and healthcare assistant shifts in the intensive care units at their connected trust.
In an open letter to the head of Imperial College school of medicine Amir Sam, its students’ union called for an end to the redeployment of clinical students to Imperial College Healthcare Trust. The healtcare workers who have died from Covid-19 At least 220 frontline health and care workers have been identified after dying with coronavirus. Through tributes from loved ones and confirmation through sources such as local NHS trusts and other authorities, the PA news agency has confirmed the names of health and social care workers who have died after contracting Covid-19 since March 11 2020. This chronological list contains people who were working in roles shortly before their deaths where they were likely to come into contact with patients. The figure is likely to be lower than the true number of workers who have died, as the names of some victims will not yet be in the public domain.

People with postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) found some relief wearing a waist-high compression garment, according to a small 30-person trial with randomized crossover design.
On the 10-minute head-up tilt test (HUT), larger areas of compression around the torso were associated with significant downward trends in heart rate (HR) and Vanderbilt Orthostatic Symptom Score (VOSS) symptoms:
No compression: HR 109 beats/min on average, with mean VOSS ~25 units
Lower leg compression: 103 beats/min, and VOSS ~23 units
Abdominal and thigh compression: 97 beats/min, with VOSS ~15 units
Full abdominal and leg compression: 92 beats/min, and VOSS ~10 units
The study therefore provides proof-of-principle evidence to support the acute efficacy of this relatively inexpensive and easy to implement treatment for people with POTS, according to Satish Raj, MD, of University of Calgary in Alberta, and colleagues reporting in the Jan. 26 issue of the
Increased speed and accuracy in diagnosis can lead to early medical intervention and save lives
NHSX, a unit tasked with driving the digital transformation of care in the NHS, has brought together over 40,000 CT scans, MRIs and X-rays from more than 10,000 patients across the UK during the course of the pandemic.
Access to this National COVID-19 Chest Imaging Database (NCCID) has now been extended to hospitals and universities across the country who are using the images to track patterns and markers of illness. The database can speed up diagnosis of COVID-19, leading to a quick treatment plan and greater understanding of whether the patient may end up in a critical condition.
