IMPERIAL COUNTY â Two local mosquito pools have tested positive for St. Louis encephalitis, the Imperial County Public Health Department announced Friday.
One of the mosquito pools was collected in El Centro near West Main Road just east of Austin Road. The other was in Imperial near the area of La Paz Drive and Puerto Vallarta Avenue. The samples were collected on Tuesday and results were received Friday.
â As temperatures increase, so do mosquito populations and disease risk, which poses a serious public health threat in our communities,â said Imperial County Health Officer Dr. Stephen Munday. âResidents are strongly encouraged to check around properties and yards for mosquito breeding sources.â
EL CENTRO â Effective today, any Imperial County resident 16 and older is eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.
County health officials said registration for appointments will continue to be available through the State of California’s My Turn system (https://myturn.ca.gov/).
For providers receiving vaccine from a federal program, their information can be found on www.vaccinefinder.org. Individuals may also check with their local providers to inquire about vaccine availability and appointments.

Recent court order lessens restrictions on religious services
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The most recent Officer Order from the Imperial County Public Health Department has been updated to reflect the updated guidance for religious service. In order to reduce the further spread of COVID-19, singing, chanting and wind instruments are still not allowed.
On Friday, the U.S. Supreme Court in the case of South Bay United Pentecostal Church, et al. v Newsom et al., partially granted applicant’s application for injunctive relief. This prohibited the State from restricting indoor services of places of worship under Tier 1 of the Blueprint for a Safer Economy.

Health officials say the shipment will include 1,200 doses
IMPERIAL COUNTY, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - Imperial County Health Officials say it will be receiving its first shipment of COVID-19 vaccine from Moderna this week.
Health officials say the vaccine will arrive between today and Wednesday.
The shipment will include 1,200 doses of which the Imperial County Public Health Department will receive 200, El Centro Regional Medical Center 600 doses, and Pioneers Memorial Healthcare District with 400 doses.
Last week, the county received its first shipment from Pfizer.
Officials say the vaccines will continue to be given to people in Phase 1a, which includes high-risk workers in healthcare settings, first responders, and patients and staff of long-term care facilities.

Valley receives more than 900 doses
EL CENTRO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - The Imperial County Health Public Health (ICPHD) announced Thursday it has received its first shipment of the Pfizer coronavirus vaccine.
The shipment contains 975 doses, with additional vaccines headed for the Valley in the coming weeks.
First responders, as well as patients and staff at long-term care facilities, will be the first to receive the vaccines, possibly as early as this week.

El Centro Regional Medical Center (ECRMC) will receive 475 doses. Pioneers Memorial Hospital Distict will receive 330. The remainder will be used for paramedics, and public health department vaccinators.
