IT is suicidal to pretend about it: Nigeria is on fire over insecurity. Few years ago, we published an editorial warning Nigerians, especially those who live in the South, that death was approaching from the North. Now, death has arrived.
There are protests in the South, mostly by women and young men who work in the farms. They can no longer go to their farms because of the possibility of being raped, killed or kidnapped by criminals who have consistently been identified as herdsmen.
On Wednesday, February 3, in Uromi, Esan-North East Local Government Area of Edo State and in Epie/Atissa communities in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, crowds of women protesters trooped out to the roads, demanding that herdsmen vacate their lands.
The lecturer and student of the National Institute for Construction Technology, Uromi in Esan Northeast Local Government Area of Edo State, who were abducted last Wednesday, have regained their freedom.

Unknown gunmen have killed a 27-year-old official of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ebube Uchebuego.
SaharaReporters gathered that Uchebuego was murdered at his residence in Ekidolor community, Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo state.
The deceased was attached to the Road Safety office in the community.
There has been a spike in attacks by gunmen in Edo and other South-South states in recent times.
Uchebuego’s reported killing comes a few days after gunmen stormed the National Institute of Construction Technology, Uromi in Esan North-East Local Government Area of the state and abducted an unknown number of persons which include students and staff members, to an uknown location.
