EEDC decries high vandalism in South-East, convicts 2

The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) has decried the high vandalism of electrical installations and wiring in the South-East.
The Head, Communications of EEDC, Mr Emeka Ezeh, said this while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Enugu.
Ezeh noted that the company had launched its whistle-blowing lines to check the rising incidents of vandalism in the South-East.
“Residents are encouraged to make use of the company’s whistle-blowing lines 084 700 110 and 0814 602 6678 to report any suspicious attempt on installation or report to the EEDC office serving them or to the nearest police station,’’ he said.
Two Sentenced To 4 Years Imprisonment For Vandalizing EEDC Property
Anambra Magistrate Court presiding in Otuocha has sentenced two persons to four years imprisonment over vandalising and stealing property owned by Enugu Electricity Distribution Company PLC (EEDC).
The culprits of Edozieuno Ikemefuna and Chinedu Agbata Nwabueze, both 28years were convicted after pleading guilty to the charge.
They were both arrested on February 7, 2021 for destroying the Shell Road 500KVA distribution substation at Umueri in Aguleri, Anambra State, and from there, were taken to the Aguleri Police Division where they confessed to committing the crime.

Enugu, Jan. 24, 2021 The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) has commenced free mass meter roll-out to electricity consumers in South-East, under the National Mass Metering Programme (NMMP),according to Mr Emeka Ezeh, Head, Corporate Communications, EEDC.
In a statement made available to newsmen in Enugu, on Sunday, Ezeh assured customers that the NMMP meters would get to them free, as they would not be required to make any upfront payment to be metered.
“The mass metering program comes at no cost to our customers. We kicked off the roll-out of the NMMP meters on Jan. 21, using select feeders under our Ogui and Abakpa Districts as pilot.
