FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ) The bodies of 21-year-olds Michael Gohde and Dakota Goldapske, the two canoers who went missing after their canoe capsized in bad weather on Lake Winnebago Monday night, have been recovered.
The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office announced the recoveries on Facebook. Goldapske’s body was recovered Wednesday. The body found today is believed to be that of Gohde.
Sheriff Ryan Waldschmidt said Tuesday that the two canoers had contacted police at about 8:30 pm on Monday to report they were in distress. Within minutes, their canoe had capsized and thrown them into the lake. The canoers managed to stay in contact with dispatchers for around 45 minutes, even while in the water.
