Columbus Historical Society eyes historic engine house as headquarters

Once the headquarters of the Columbus Fire Department s first emergency squad, Engine House No. 6 could become the first permanent home for the Columbus Historical Society. The historic building at 540 West Broad Street in Franklinton has sat vacant since the Columbus Metropolitan Housing Authority purchased it six years ago from an electronics business. Mike Frush, president of the historical society, envisions a space that houses not only the organization s offices, but also a rotating slate of informative exhibits, a research library and perhaps even a cafe and bookstore. But first the group must raise enough money to make that vision a reality.
