Channel 4 will air the UKâs first continuing drama to be made with an all-black cast and written and directed by black talent, as part of the broadcasterâs Black to Front diversity initiative. Shooting is under way on the hour-long special episode of
Hollyoaks starring, written and directed by black British talent.
The soap launched an investigation last year after a number of black cast members alleged they had experienced racism on set.
The episode forms part of Channel 4âs Black to Front, a day of specially commissioned programming to air on 10 September that will see black-fronted editions of flagship shows including

Marcus Ryder secures new role at Lenny Henry Centre for media diversity
DIVERSITY CHAMPION: Marcus Ryder MBE has worked in the UK media industry for 25 years
LEADING MEDIA diversity champion Marcus Ryder MBE has secured a new role at Birmingham City University to examine representation across UK media.
Mr Ryder has been officially named as Head of External Consultancies at the centre based in Birmingham City University and will look into diversity across the industry including in journalism, acting, film, TV and radio in both front-of-house and behind the scenes roles.
The new role will see him work alongside esteemed academics and industry leaders to explore how the UK’s media reflects its population and to be proactive in championing better representation across all sectors.
