The number of active cases in Iowa fell to just over 3,100, meaning fewer than one in every 1,000 Iowans is currently infected with the novel coronavirus.
The Iowa Department of Public Health on Wednesday, June 9, was reporting a total of 372,239 coronavirus cases in Iowa since the start of the pandemic, an increase of 622 over the previous week. In the past seven days, Iowa has reported an average of 89 new cases each day.
In the past week, the state reported 21 additional deaths from COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus. There have now been 6,078 COVID-19 deaths in Iowa.
A total of 1,343,744 Iowans, or 43% of Iowa s population, were fully vaccinated as of Wednesday, having received either both doses of a two-dose sequence or one dose of a single-dose vaccine. Another 136,951 Iowans (4%) were partially vaccinated with the first dose of a two-dose sequence.
The Iowa Department of Public Health on Tuesday has not reported any new positive COVID-19 tests or additional deaths in the last 24 hours. It is unclear if this is a reporting or website issue. The state reports 2,247 additional COVID-19 tests administered in the last 24 hours. Iowa’s five TestIowa sites were closed for Memorial Day on Monday. At 10 a.m., IDPH reported 401,821 total positive tests, 360,829 total recoveries and 6,055 total.
