The Irish Council for Civil Liberties has called for guidelines to be put in place to allow for peaceful protests during current Level 5 restrictions.
Executive Director Liam Herrick said if guidelines were put in place, people could protest in a safe way and the right to peaceful assembly is an essential part of our democracy.
On last weekend s protests in Dublin, Mr Herrick said what happened was completely wrong, irresponsible and put peoples health at risk.
Speaking on RTÉ s Morning Ireland, he also said a planned protest in Cork this weekend should not go ahead.
