INEC Political parties The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says proper internal democratic practice among political parties will solve 80 per cent of electoral challenges in the country. x INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Enugu State, Dr Emeka Ononamadu, said this in a welcome address at the opening of a workshop in Enugu on Wednesday. The workshop focus on the “Capacity Building Workshop on Political Party Management and Administration and Party Audit’’. Participants at the workshop include the Heads of Election and Party Monitoring (EPM) Department in INEC state offices from the 17 states in the southern part of the country.

2023 elections: INEC, voter access and polling units

Share Issues relating to polling units in democracy remain critical because of the role of the electorate. In this report, KUNLE ODEREMI and TAIWO AMODU write on the plan by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to create more polling units across the country vis-a-vis the credibility of elections. Polling unit constitutes a fundamental building block for credible election. It serves as the real platform for eligible citizens to exercise their franchise since a polling unit or station is a place, where eligible persons can register to vote in an election. There are about 120 000 polling units disproportionately spread across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja. Some of the units have multiple voting points due to density of the population of registered voters, especially in urban areas.

Review State Election laws to strengthen Democratic system

The European Centre for Electoral Support ( ECES) has equally begun the training of Chairpersons of the 36 States Independent Electoral Commissions (SIECs) on leadership and quality management skills for effective service delivery in Nasarawa state Wadai argued that the nation’s Democratic system has continued to experience set back because the electorial laws has remain for years without review to pace the way for free flow of the electoral process in Nigeria.
