Story highlights
The region has been under increased surveillance due to an unusual number of smaller tremors since the quake on February 24, which was felt in Reykjavik, and large parts of western Iceland.
A recent swarm of earthquakes across south-western Iceland have put officials on alert for potential volcanic activity.

4.4 quake 7 Mar 4:16 am (GMT +1)
Just 20 minutes ago, a 4.4-magnitude earthquake struck near Lambaréné, Moyen-Ogooué, Gabon. The tremor was recorded early morning on Sunday 7 March 2021 at 4:16 am local time, at a shallow depth of 10 km below the surface.
The event was filed by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the first seismological agency to report it.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the United States Geological Survey which listed the quake at magnitude 4.4 as well.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
