4.4 quake 5.3 Km NE of Grindavík, Iceland, 20 Apr 11:05 pm (GMT +0)
The Icelandic Met Office (IMO) reported a magnitude 4.4 quake in Iceland near Reykjavik, Reykjavíkurborg, Capital Region, only 27 minutes ago. The earthquake hit late at night on Tuesday 20 April 2021 at 11:05 pm local time at a very shallow depth of 5.7 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 3.7 earthquake.

Major coronavirus metrics continue to head lower in the US, and now also globally. New cases in the US during the week ending May 8th were down 18.6% from new cases during the week ending May 1st, and are now down 83.3% from the January peak; this week also saw fewer new cases than any week since September. This week s US deaths attributed to Covid were 6.8% lower than the prior week s, and down 80.5% from the January high; US Covid deaths are now at the lowest rate since since the second week of July.

Due to the risk of wildfires, the national police commissioner, in consultation with the chiefs of police and heads of fire departments in West Iceland, the capital area, on the Reykjanes peninsula and in South Iceland, has declared a phase of uncertainty,
The area affected extends from Eyjafjöll mountains in South Iceland to the south side of the Snæfellsnes peninsula, West Iceland. The decision is made due to a lack of rain in the area in recent weeks and no outlook for rain in the coming days.
Wildfire Consumes Forested Land Near Reykjavík Photo/Árni Sæberg About 80 firefighters in the capital area fought a wildfire in Heiðmörk, the municipal conservation area of Reykjavík, yesterday afternoon and into the early morning hours, mbl.is reports. The fire is thought to have consumed at least five hectares (12.5 acres) of forested land, where shrubs and pine trees grow. Numerous police officers, rescue workers and other first responders took part in the effort. mbl.is/Eggert Jóhannesson The fire, which started east of Vífilsstaðavatn lake, was reported at 3:20 pm yesterday, and all available fire equipment was used to fight it. Its source is not known.
